Vermont Board of Pharmacy License Verification: Check Status & Renew

Use this guide to verify a Vermont pharmacist, pharmacy technician, pharmacy intern, telepharmacist or pharmacy business through the Vermont Secretary of State Office of Professional Regulation.

The public lookup is the right first step for verification. OPR Online Services is the separate portal used for applications, renewals, account updates, additional documents and official verification requests.

Quick Answer: How Vermont Pharmacy License Verification Works

Use Vermont OPR’s Find a Professional service for public license verification. The lookup can show the licensee’s name, city, state, ZIP, license number and type, issue and effective dates, expiration date and license status. Where applicable, it can also display supervision, endorsements, specialties and disciplinary information.

Most searches can begin with the person’s name. Add the license number or other details when you need to narrow several similar results. For a pharmacy business, confirm the licensed legal entity and location rather than relying only on a storefront name.

VerificationLicense.org is an independent informational website. It does not issue, renew, approve or change Vermont licenses. Final licensing actions are completed through Vermont OPR.

Do not mix records

One profession, several credentials

Pharmacists, interns, technicians, trainees, telepharmacists and pharmacy businesses have different license or registration records.

How to Look Up a Vermont Pharmacist or Pharmacy License

Open Find a Professional

Start with the Vermont OPR public lookup rather than a private directory or an old copy of a license.

Choose Pharmacy and the correct credential type

Decide whether you need a pharmacist, pharmacy technician, pharmacy intern, telepharmacist or pharmacy business record.

Search by name first

OPR says most searches are successful using only the name field. If the list is broad, add the license number or another identifying field.

Open the Detail record

Check the full record instead of relying only on the search-results list. Confirm license number, type, status and expiration.

Check discipline when relevant

For hiring, credentialing or public-safety review, use OPR’s Conduct Decision Search when a more complete disciplinary review is needed.

Save dated proof

For an employer file, record the official source, date checked, legal name, license number, credential type, status and expiration date.

Portal compatibility

OPR currently says its Online Services platform is designed for supported laptop and desktop browser environments and is not compatible with smartphones and tablets. If an account or renewal function fails on mobile, move to a computer before assuming the portal is unavailable.

Which Vermont Pharmacy Credential Should You Search?

Credential Who or what it covers What to confirm
Pharmacist An individual licensed to practice pharmacy in Vermont. License number, current status, expiration and discipline when relevant.
Pharmacy Intern A registered intern working toward pharmacist licensure under required supervision. Intern credential and current registration status.
Pharmacy Technician A registered technician meeting Vermont’s age and certification or training pathway. Registration type, status and expiration.
Pharmacy Technician Trainee A trainee who has not yet completed the full technician route. Trainee status and expiration because the trainee credential is time-limited.
Out-of-State Telepharmacist A qualifying pharmacist licensed elsewhere who holds Vermont telepharmacy authority. Vermont credential plus home-jurisdiction good standing.
Pharmacy / Drug Outlet In-state, nonresident, institutional, compounding, manufacturing and other regulated drug-outlet categories. Legal business identity, license category, physical location, status and expiration.

How to Read a Vermont Pharmacy License Result

Name

Match the correct licensee

Do not assume that a similar name belongs to the person you are checking. Compare the available location and license details.

License type

Verify the exact credential

A pharmacy technician record is not a pharmacist license, and an individual license is not proof that a pharmacy business is licensed.

Status

Current record matters most

Find a Professional includes current and former licensees. A record appearing in search does not by itself establish current authority to practice.

Dates

Check expiration every time

Review issue, effective and expiration dates together, especially during the weeks around a renewal period.

Discipline

Use Conduct Decision Search

When a complete disciplinary review matters, use OPR’s separate conduct search instead of relying only on a basic status result.

Business

Match legal entity and location

For a pharmacy or drug outlet, compare the licensed business identity and physical location with the facility you are reviewing.

Vermont Pharmacy License Renewal: Dates and Online Steps

Vermont OPR pharmacy credentials follow a fixed biennial renewal cycle. The currently posted fee-and-date chart lists July 31 of odd-numbered years for the Pharmacy profession, making July 31, 2027 the next standard renewal date after 2026.

Use your existing OPR account

If you currently hold, previously held or previously applied for an OPR license, do not create a new account. Recover the existing account when necessary.

Wait for the renewal window

OPR says online renewal generally becomes available about six weeks before expiration and sends a courtesy email to the address on file.

Select Renew and the correct license

Move through every renewal screen and answer all required questions. Business-license users may need to switch from the individual profile to the business profile.

Upload required supporting documents

If continuing education applies, OPR requires the renewal attestation and uploaded course-completion documents. Business credentials may have additional profession-specific documentation.

Pay the applicable renewal fee

Confirm the credential and amount before payment because pharmacy fees differ significantly between individuals and business license categories.

Wait for the success confirmation

Do not close the process at the payment screen. OPR specifically instructs users to wait for confirmation that renewal was successfully submitted.

Email is important

OPR no longer relies on postal renewal reminders. Keep the email address in your licensing profile current and monitor it during the renewal period.

90-day initial-license rule

An initial OPR license issued 90 days or less before the profession’s renewal date generally carries through the next full two-year period. An initial license issued 91 days or more before the renewal date is generally due for the upcoming renewal.

Vermont Pharmacy License Fees

The OPR fee chart currently posted by Vermont, updated July 1, 2025, lists the following application and renewal amounts. Check the live OPR account before payment in case the Legislature or OPR posts a newer schedule.

Credential Renewal fee Application fee
Pharmacist $145 $155
Pharmacist Intern $55 $25
Pharmacy Technician $85 $70
Out-of-State Telepharmacist $145 $155
Non-Resident Pharmacy $460 + $570 per specialty $410 + $800 per specialty
Institutional Pharmacy $570 $460
In-State Pharmacy: Compounding / Home Infusion $460 + $570 per specialty $410 + $800 per specialty
Wholesale Drug Outlet / 3PL / 503B Outsourcer $570 $800

2026 Vermont Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician CE Requirements

The Vermont Board of Pharmacy administrative rules effective February 1, 2026 require pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to complete approved continuing education during each biennial period.

Credential Requirement Extra rule when applicable
Pharmacist At least 30 hours of approved CE. Additional controlled-substance or compounding topic requirements may apply.
Pharmacist with a DEA number or pending DEA application 30-hour pharmacist total. At least 2 hours must cover specified controlled-substance, VPMS, abuse-risk, pain, tapering or related legal topics.
Sterile or hazardous compounding pharmacist / USP <797> or <800> Designated Person 30-hour pharmacist total. At least 3 hours must address sterile or hazardous drug compounding as appropriate to the practice.
Pharmacy Technician At least 6 hours of approved CE. Coursework must meet the Board’s approved-content standards.
What counts as approved CE?

The current rules recognize coursework designed to maintain or improve pharmacy competence and approved by ACPE, the American Medical Association as Category 1, the Board or another Board-designated entity.

CE audit risk

OPR conducts a continuing-education audit after the renewal period and randomly selects a percentage of licensees. If a licensee fails the audit, OPR states that the CE requirement must be satisfied within the required corrective period.

Vermont Pharmacy Technician Verification and Requirements

Under the 2026 Board rules, a person performing pharmacy-technician duties must be registered with OPR as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy technician trainee. A person who only cashiers or delivers drugs is not required to register as a technician.

Age

Minimum age is 16

Both pharmacy technician and technician-trainee applicants must be at least 16 years old.

Full technician

Certification or approved training

A full technician must hold Board-approved national certification or complete an approved college, vocational, military, Public Health Service or employer training route.

Trainee

Four-year registration

A trainee registration is valid for four years, is not renewable and may be extended for one year for good cause.

Expiration

Training must be completed

An expired trainee must stop practicing as a trainee and may apply for full technician registration after completing the required training.

CE

6 hours per biennial period

A registered pharmacy technician must complete at least six hours of approved CE for renewal under the current rules.

Scope

Professional judgment stays with the pharmacist

A technician or trainee may perform delegated duties under pharmacist supervision but may not perform acts requiring pharmacist professional judgment.

For additional state and national technician credential context, see our pharmacy technician license verification guide.

Vermont Pharmacy and Nonresident Pharmacy License Verification

Checking the pharmacist in charge is not a substitute for checking the pharmacy’s business credential. Vermont’s 2026 rules require drug outlets operating in Vermont, including qualifying nonresident drug outlets, to hold the applicable Vermont license.

In-state

Verify the facility itself

Match the licensed business name, location, license category, status and expiration. In-state drug outlets are subject to Vermont inspection requirements.

Nonresident

Home-state standing also matters

A nonresident drug outlet must meet Vermont licensing requirements and provide evidence of good standing in the jurisdiction where it is physically located.

Nonresident inspection timing for renewal

Facility type Inspection timing Practical point
Compounding, home-infusion or qualifying specialty outlet Generally within the 2-year period required by the current Board rules. Confirm the inspection source and report meet Vermont’s rule before renewal.
Other nonresident drug outlets Generally within the applicable 3-year period under the current inspection rule. Do not assume the home-state license alone satisfies Vermont renewal requirements.
Business registration and OPR licensure are different

A Vermont business registration does not replace the pharmacy or drug-outlet license required through OPR.

Moving the pharmacy?

OPR’s pharmacy FAQ says an upcoming location change must be uploaded to the current license account within 30 days of the change, and a new business license application is then required for the new location.

Out-of-State Pharmacists: Endorsement, Transfer and Telepharmacy

Vermont OPR specifically says Vermont does not use “reciprocity” as the general licensing route. An out-of-state professional should review endorsement or Fast Track Endorsement requirements instead.

Endorsement

Good standing is required

The current pharmacy rules allow pharmacist licensure by endorsement for applicants licensed in good standing in a substantially equivalent U.S. jurisdiction or licensed in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction for at least three years.

License transfer

NABP may be part of the process

The rules allow OPR to require use of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy preliminary application for licensure transfer.

Examination

NAPLEX is listed; MPJE is not required

The February 2026 rules list NAPLEX for pharmacist licensure by examination, and the Vermont Pharmacy page states that MPJE is not required.

Telepharmacy

Separate Vermont authority can apply

An out-of-state pharmacist serving a Vermont patient by telepharmacy may need Vermont’s out-of-state telepharmacist license unless another authorized Vermont pharmacy arrangement applies.

Telepharmacy renewal

Home-state good standing must continue

The current rules require an out-of-state telepharmacist to remain licensed in good standing in another U.S. jurisdiction.

Do not assume

An out-of-state license is not automatic Vermont authority

Check the exact Vermont licensing route before practicing, providing remote services or accepting a position that requires a Vermont credential.

If a professional works across the Vermont–New Hampshire border, our New Hampshire license verification guide can help identify the separate source-state record that may also need to be checked.

Public Lookup vs Official Verification to Another Licensing Board

A public license lookup and a formal verification request are not the same task.

What you need Correct Vermont route What happens
Check current public status Find a Professional View public licensing information and print the details.
Verification sent to another state or jurisdiction OPR Online Services → Verification Select the credential and receiving jurisdiction, complete payment and submit the request.
Application or renewal status OPR Online Services Sign in and view the application or licensing dashboard.
Profession roster Find a Professional → Profession Roster Download Choose the profession, credential type and statuses and download the roster.
Processing time

OPR says official verification requests are generally processed within 3–5 business days after submission. The receiving jurisdiction may need additional time after Vermont sends the verification.

How to Check Vermont Board of Pharmacy Discipline

Find a Professional can display disciplinary information where applicable, but OPR provides a separate Conduct Decision Search for a more complete conduct review.

Employer review

Active does not answer every question

A current license status can coexist with public disciplinary history. Credentialing policies may require both checks.

Conduct decisions

Search the separate database

Use OPR’s Conduct Decision Search when you need public disciplinary decisions rather than only basic credential status.

Complaint

Complaint filing is a different process

A license lookup shows existing public information. Reporting alleged unprofessional conduct uses OPR’s separate complaint system.

Vermont Pharmacy License Lookup Problems: What to Do

Problem Likely reason What to do
No result by name Spelling, former legal name or wrong credential category. Use fewer filters, confirm the spelling and check the correct Pharmacy credential type.
Too many matches Name-only search is broad. Add the license number or available city/location information.
Pharmacy business not found You may be using a trade name instead of the licensed legal entity. Check the legal business name, address and exact drug-outlet category.
Renew button is missing The renewal window may not be open or the wrong account/profile is being used. Renewal generally opens six weeks before expiration. Business licensees should switch to the appropriate business profile.
Portal fails on a phone OPR currently warns that smartphones and tablets are not supported. Use a supported laptop or desktop browser.
Submitted document is not showing OPR has not processed it yet. Allow approximately 3–5 business days after receipt, then check the account again.
Need proof for another board A public printout may not satisfy the receiving authority. Submit an official verification request through OPR Online Services.

Use Vermont OPR Find a Professional. Search for the pharmacist, open the Detail record and confirm the name, license type, license number, current status, issue or effective dates and expiration date.

Can I verify a Vermont pharmacy technician in the same system?

Yes. Pharmacy technician and pharmacy technician trainee registrations are handled through Vermont OPR. Choose the correct Pharmacy credential type so a trainee record is not mistaken for full technician registration.

When is the next Vermont pharmacy license renewal date?

Vermont’s currently posted OPR fee-and-renewal chart lists July 31 of odd-numbered years for the Pharmacy profession. From 2026, the next standard renewal date is July 31, 2027. Online renewal generally opens about six weeks before expiration.

How much does a Vermont pharmacist license renewal cost?

The currently posted OPR fee chart lists a $145 pharmacist renewal fee and a $155 pharmacist application fee. Confirm the amount shown by OPR before payment in case a newer fee schedule has been posted.

How many continuing education hours does a Vermont pharmacist need?

The Vermont Board of Pharmacy rules effective February 1, 2026 require at least 30 hours of approved continuing education during the biennial period. Additional topic-specific hours apply to certain pharmacists with DEA credentials and certain sterile or hazardous compounding responsibilities.

How many CE hours does a Vermont pharmacy technician need?

The current Vermont Board of Pharmacy rules require a pharmacy technician to complete at least 6 hours of approved continuing education during the biennial period.

Is the MPJE required for a Vermont pharmacist license?

The Vermont Board of Pharmacy currently states that the MPJE is not required. The 2026 administrative rules list NAPLEX for pharmacist licensure by examination.

Does Vermont have pharmacist license reciprocity?

Vermont OPR says Vermont does not have reciprocity. Out-of-state applicants should review the applicable endorsement or Fast Track Endorsement route. The pharmacy rules also provide pharmacist endorsement requirements based on good standing and prior U.S. licensure.

How do I send official Vermont license verification to another state?

Sign in to OPR Online Services, select Verification, choose the license or application and receiving jurisdiction, enter the required payment information and submit. OPR says verification requests are generally processed within 3–5 business days.

What should I do if a Vermont pharmacy license does not appear in search?

Check the spelling, legal or former name, license number and exact Pharmacy credential category. Use fewer search filters when necessary. For a business, search the licensed legal entity rather than only a trade name. If the issue remains unresolved, contact Vermont OPR.

Final Check Before You Rely on a Vermont Pharmacy License

For ordinary verification, start with Vermont OPR Find a Professional and confirm the exact credential type, number, current status and expiration. For hiring or credentialing, add a Conduct Decision Search when disciplinary history matters.

Licensees should use their existing OPR Online Services account for renewal, document uploads, status checks and official verification requests. For the 2027 cycle, review your email and account before the July 31 expiration date, complete applicable CE and confirm the fee for your exact credential before submitting payment.
